Oaka supercity is located on George street in Glasgow city centre (the bottom of the strath hill), it is an asian grocery store that supplies a range of foods from fresh to frozen.
I found out about this matcha spot on google maps when searching for matcha nearby. With minimal reviews I was sceptical however due to its convenience I thought I would give it a go.
when entering the shop the smell of fresh noodles and asian spices welcome you, the menu was clear and showed the price of all the food and drinks they offer.
I opted for an "Ube Matcha". I wasn't sure what flavouring this was, I discovered that Ube is a brightly coloured yam that comes from the Philippines, it tastes light and vanilla like. The combination of the ube and the matcha was amazing, it allowed the matcha to be naturally sweetened and there was no need for additives such as vanilla syrup, the colour contrast of the green and the vibrant purple also created a aesthetically pleasing drink.
The atmosphere in Oaka itself was calm and offered a great selection of food and drinks including instant matcha powder to make at home and if visiting with a friend who doesn't enjoy matcha there is plenty alternatives. There was a small seating area if you wanted to sit and enjoy your drink.
I would rate Oaka very highly, the independent supermarket had a great tasting matcha to offer. The blend of the green and purple created the picture perfect matcha bringing great asian flavours to Glasgow. Interaction with the staff was minimal however from that they were very friendly. The location of Oaka is also convenient for me personally as it is very close to the University of Strathclyde where I attend but also those who go shopping or work in the city centre. It's a great spot for a high quality matcha in Glasgow! comparing it to Level11 in the Westend is tough competition but I would say personally the matcha from Oaka was better as the flavour was more authentic.
