Oaka Supercity - George Street Glasgow

Oaka supercity is located on George street in Glasgow city centre (the bottom of the strath hill), it is an asian grocery store that supplies a range of foods from fresh to frozen.

I found out about this matcha spot on google maps when searching for matcha nearby. With minimal reviews I was sceptical however due to its convenience I thought I would give it a go.

when entering the shop the smell of fresh noodles and asian spices welcome you, the menu was clear and showed the price of all the food and drinks they offer.

I opted for an "Ube Matcha".  I wasn't sure what flavouring this was, I discovered that Ube is a brightly coloured yam that comes from the Philippines, it tastes light and vanilla like. The combination of the ube and the matcha was amazing, it allowed the matcha to be naturally sweetened and there was no need for additives such as vanilla syrup, the colour contrast of the green and the vibrant purple also created a aesthetically pleasing drink.

The atmosphere in Oaka itself was calm and offered a great selection of food and drinks including instant matcha powder to make at home and if visiting with a friend who doesn't enjoy matcha there is plenty alternatives. There was a small seating area if you wanted to sit and enjoy your drink.

I would rate Oaka very highly, the independent supermarket had a great tasting matcha to offer. The blend of the green and purple created the picture perfect matcha bringing great asian flavours to Glasgow. Interaction with the staff was minimal however from that they were very friendly. The location of Oaka is also convenient for me personally as it is very close to the University of Strathclyde where I attend but also those who go shopping or work in the city centre. It's a great spot for a high quality matcha in Glasgow! comparing it to Level11 in the Westend is tough competition but I would say personally the matcha from Oaka was better as the flavour was more authentic.

Unlike traditional green tea, matcha involves consuming the entire tea leaf leading to a more concentrated mix of nutrients and antioxidants. But why has it become so popular?  Wellness Appeal The wellness movement in today's society is definitely to credit as a driving force for matcha's rise in popularity. Consumers are more health-conscious than ever so matcha’s reputation as a 'superfood' has made it a trendy choice for those looking for healthier drink options. Matcha drinks are popular as vegan alternatives as they are more often made with oat, almond and other pl...

Black Sheep coffee - Sauchiehall Street Glasgow

Today's matcha spot was Black sheep! with 3 coffee shops around Glasgow city centre and a fourth one  on the way - conveniently located at the bottom of strathclyde hill its the perfect spot to grab a coffee.  On Mondays black sheep offer £2 student coffee, this is a great deal to start off the week. They have recently launched their seasonal menu, the matcha I got today was a ginger bread flavour. I was not sure how this flavour combination would work but it was okay - it was a very sickly taste and tasted like Christmas candles but I still enjoyed it. Black sheep use ceremonial grade Japanese matcha - meaning the leafs are higher quality. This makes for a great strong tasting matcha their other flavours consist of strawberry blueberry and vanilla, I have had these multiple times and really enjoy the blueberry one. I ordered the matcha via the mobile app, this allowed me to select a time for collection and apply the discount codes. black sheep also offer a loyalty scheme this...

Level11 - Byres Road Glasgow

Level11  is located on Byers Road in the west end of Glasgow.  It has made a name for itself  since its opening in November 2023 due to  its high-quality coffee and matcha. Walking down Byers Road you  wouldn't  even notice the hidden gem exists. Its dark atmosphere is  deceiving,  and the coffee shop  appear s  to  not  even be open . The trendy spot has a very unique atmosphere the concrete surfaces and grey tones g ive it a n Industrial feel however this is cleverly contrasted  by the  greenery and plants  placed in the shop.  As seen in this image, the seating area is small, however it is arranged in a way that encourages interaction with the friendly baristas creating a relaxed atmosphere and is ideal for casual chats with a friend. The cafe is also dog friendly and open 7 days a week.    Onto the matcha :)  Blueberry , raspberry , coconut and orange , level11's bro...
