Level11 - Byres Road Glasgow

Level11 is located on Byers Road in the west end of Glasgow. It has made a name for itself since its opening in November 2023 due to its high-quality coffee and matcha. Walking down Byers Road you wouldn't even notice the hidden gem exists. Its dark atmosphere is deceiving, and the coffee shop appears to not even be open.

The trendy spot has a very unique atmosphere the concrete surfaces and grey tones give it an Industrial feel however this is cleverly contrasted by the greenery and plants placed in the shop. As seen in this image, the seating area is small, however it is arranged in a way that encourages interaction with the friendly baristas creating a relaxed atmosphere and is ideal for casual chats with a friend. The cafe is also dog friendly and open 7 days a week.

 Onto the matcha :)

Blueberry, raspberry, coconut and orange, level11's broad range of flavours did not disappoint. Today I opted for the blueberry matcha I thought it was a fair comparison as I have tried many blueberry flavoured matches. The matcha was extremely high quality and was freshly whisked up to the perfect froth by the barista. you could taste how high quality it was as it was - smooth and sweet but still had the earthy matcha taste. The presentation of the matcha was also exceptional the perfect green white and purple ombre fulfilling the aesthetic quality that makes matcha so popular. This matcha also gets aesthetic bonus points for the sweet message on the cup "smile your heart out".

My overall review on Level11 matcha...

The matcha was high quality and tasted great, the bottom of the cup was layered with real blueberries I enjoyed this however I don't feel as though it added much flavour - a slightly sweeter taste would have made it better. The service was great, both the baristas were supper friendly and welcoming, very rare for trendy independent coffee shop as they often have an intimidating atmosphere due to the small space. a trip to the Westend was also a fun day out and a nice change from the city surroundings.

see you for the next matcha taste test <3! leave your email below to be notified for the next blog post!

Black Sheep coffee - Sauchiehall Street Glasgow

Today's matcha spot was Black sheep! with 3 coffee shops around Glasgow city centre and a fourth one  on the way - conveniently located at the bottom of strathclyde hill its the perfect spot to grab a coffee.  On Mondays black sheep offer £2 student coffee, this is a great deal to start off the week. They have recently launched their seasonal menu, the matcha I got today was a ginger bread flavour. I was not sure how this flavour combination would work but it was okay - it was a very sickly taste and tasted like Christmas candles but I still enjoyed it. Black sheep use ceremonial grade Japanese matcha - meaning the leafs are higher quality. This makes for a great strong tasting matcha their other flavours consist of strawberry blueberry and vanilla, I have had these multiple times and really enjoy the blueberry one. I ordered the matcha via the mobile app, this allowed me to select a time for collection and apply the discount codes. black sheep also offer a loyalty scheme this...

Strathclyde cafe - university of strathclyde

For today's blog we are switching things up! As a strathclyde student i can't not mention a strathclyde cafe. Unfortunately nowhere on campus sells matcha - a great idea that should be introduced, however iced coffee is the next best thing. I am very aware the unique taste of matcha is not for everyone so I thought taking a different approach this week and choose something that would appeal to those that stick to a trusty iced coffee.  The cafe is in the learning and teaching building, around the corner from my marketing lecture. It's always busy and offers a great selection of fresh breakfast and lunch options. There is no seating within the cafe however these are many communal study spaces dotted near by to take your food and drink to allowing students to multitask in peace.  The convenience of the cafe is the best part, the service is fast and the staff are very friendly, this allows you to quickly grab a coffee before class. The cafe also offers a loyalty card that c...
